Band Of The Week: We Are The Ocean

Slight Band History:

We Are The Ocean consists in vocalist Liam Cromby, bass guitarist Jack Spence, guitarist Alfie Scully and drummer Tom Whittaker and in one point second vocalist Dan Brown. Jack Spence and Dan Brown originally were in a band called "Dead But Still Dreaming" this band disbanded and Jack and Dan looked for more members under the same band name, after a while the band decided to start new with a new name and changed the name to "We Are The Ocean" in 2007. When they changed their name they went into a lot of social networks to build fandom and were especially successful in Myspace which resulted in a nomination for "Best British Newcomer" in the Kerrang Awads before even releasing a record.

Reason for this pick, This is my favorite song from this band.

Personal Opinion:

One of my cousins showed me this band over a year or two ago telling me that they were very melodic, and yes that is true they are very melodic. This band has a couple of very good songs with strong lyrics and had a duet kind of thing that made them have a very nice spark to their songs. That being said they don't have that anymore. When one of the vocalist Dan left the band. For me they lost what made them strong as a unique band. Not as much when Dan was a screamer and Jack was the melodic one because a lot of bands do that, more when they both sang melodic like in "Go Now and Live". Dan being the rough rugged voice and Jack being the high-pitch melodic voice, and yes a lot of bands have this factor but the way these two combined and build their lyrics around those two distinctive voices made they're songs highly impressive and enjoyable. For me "The Waiting Room" is a perfect example of how well those two different voices worked and thus being my favorite song of them though don't get me wrong I'm not saying they're new songs without Dan are bad but I think they could have been even better if they had that duet factor, but still check all their albums, whats very interesting about this band is that all 3 albums and 2 EP's are very different so you may never know which one you'll like, Cheers!
