Band Of The Week: Rancid
Slight Band History: Rancid was formed in 1991 by guitarist/vocalist Tim Armstrong and bassist Matt freeman. The two of them grew up together in a small town in Albany. They also played in Operation Ivy, Ivy as "Lint" and Freeman as " Mat McCall. After Operation Ivy disbanded Armstrong and Freeman spent some weeks in the band Dance Hall Crashers, Freeman later joined a hardcore band called MDC. Freeman sugested to Armstrong to quit their day jobs and form a new band of their own. Creating Rancid, they added Brett Reed which was Armstrong's roomate. After playing some shows and signing a contract with Epitaph and released they first album, news got out that they were looking for a second guitarist. They pursued Lars Frederiksen, at first he didn't join but after his band "Slip" disbanded he quickly changed his mind and joined.
