Band Of The Week: Rancid

Slight Band History:

Rancid was formed in 1991  by guitarist/vocalist Tim Armstrong and bassist Matt freeman. The two of them grew up together in a small town in Albany. They also played in Operation Ivy, Ivy as "Lint" and Freeman as " Mat McCall. After Operation Ivy disbanded Armstrong and Freeman spent some weeks in the band Dance Hall Crashers, Freeman later joined a hardcore band called MDC. Freeman sugested to Armstrong to quit their day jobs and form a new band of their own. Creating Rancid, they added Brett Reed which was Armstrong's roomate. After playing some shows and signing a contract with Epitaph and released they first album, news got out that they were looking for a second guitarist. They pursued Lars Frederiksen, at first he didn't join but after his band "Slip" disbanded he quickly changed his mind and joined. In 2006 Brett Reed announced that he was leaving rancid after 15 years, he was later replaced by the ex drummer of "Used" Branden Steineckert.

Personal Opinion:

I first heard Rancid like many other bands playing a Tony Hawk game. Although "Fall Back Down" always stood up more than the rest, till this day I still consider it one of my favorite songs of all time. When I was older this of course made me want to explore more of what Rancid had to offer and It's easy to say that yes they are by far one of my favorite bands. I can't really tell you much of what I think of them because my opinion is really influence by this so for this reason I'll tell you in a few words. If you like punk or ska or both with the occassionally reggae to the side you will for sure like this band but if it's not your thing, check out some of the other bands they have like transplants that is more like rapcore/rap songs or some of their seperate albums that are more reggae/ska than punk or the acoustic albums whatever gets to you, my point is that they play around a lot with their style while keeping their same vibe that being said check them out and check what calls you more, there is so many songs it is non stop fun.

If you find this band interesting and want to see more check them

If you think I've missed something, disagree, agree or wanna add anything, comment!
